Hi, all you learned librarians. I need your advice.
I have some teachers looking for 8th grade books they can use in lit. circles to
explore "challenges in society". They have put forth Farenheit 451 as an
example, and they're looking for others. I thought of House of Scorpion by
Nancy Farmer, and possibly Uglies by Westerfeld, but I'm having trouble getting
my summer-relaxed brain jump-started on this issue, and I'm not coming up with
others. Ideally, they'd like something in paperback that's available in
quantity (and inexpensive would be nice, too, of course). And I might add that
it doesn't have to be sci-fi; that's just all my brain would pull up today.
I confess I haven't checked the archives yet, because they want the information
right away, and I thought I'd dash off a message quick. So if someone has just
posted the ultimate list of 8th grade reads on challenges in society and I
missed it, my apologies.
I will go trolling in the archives, but in the meantime, I'd be glad of any
suggestions (you can send them directly to me, and not to the list), and I will
gladly post responses I receive to the group if there's interest.
Thanks so much for any help you can give.
