My original querey:
My district has given us a directive to teach iSafe K-12. I am an elementary
SLMS.
Has anyone ever used it? Any advice -what to use and what to skip. It
seemed a little heavy for K-2.
Many thanks for your help.
Here are the responses. I think it is too new. My school district is
finding some glitches, but the company seems willing to help. I agree that is too
much for K-2.
when I went to a presentation of this curriculum several years ago, I thought
the primary portion was watered down drivel and the upper elementary portions
were better covered by our own district written curriculum. PBS has an
Internet Driver's license that slide show that is better done and covers the
basics.

I've taught the first few chapters to 6th graders at my former elementary
position. It's organized in a teacher friendly way and the lessons are easy to
prepare. You might want to hold a parent info night via the PTA so as to give a
heads-up to those parents who find the content concerning. The online
tutorials (3 @45 min each) are a must. Print the power point pages for the parent
night chapters first and take notes during the online tutorials.
Be sure to give yourself a few weeks for the CDs (the curriculum contains
Parent night chapter) to arrive (free) after registering on their Web site:

I started teaching iSAFE this year. I have used it with my 1st, 3rd and 5th
graders. The 1st grade lessons are way too long for their attention span.
The 3rd graders did so so. Many lessons have typos and expect kids to know way
more than what my kids have experienced. I have only taught one of the 5th
grade lessons and it required time outside of my 45 minute block for students to
complete the empowerment activity. The teachers were not all supportive of
this.
Don't get me wrong, I think the program has merits but it needs to be
tweaked. My question now is the value of teaching it at every grade level as many
of
the lessons seem the same from grade to grade.
I'll be very curious to see what others have to say!!!

I went to a seminar about iSafe at an Ed Tech conference. Sounded
interesting and worthwhile. I think most of their materials are geared toward
grades
5-12, but they do have a K-3 component.
Check out their website: http://www.isafe.org/
In the sidebar navigation (on bottom right of screen) look for "Education
Resources" and click on "Educator Information". Then click on "Curriculum
Overview". It gives a basic description of the programs available. There is also
a
link to click for more detailed curricular information and that lists
objectives, materials, etc. for K-5, 3-5, middle school, and high school.
Hope this gives you the feedback you are looking for!

We are teaching it at the jr. high level. Way too much for K-2, IMHO.
