[LM_NET] HIT: Books on Growing Up

Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for
books on puberty.  Here are the suggestions I
received:

Hi, Amy:

American Girl puts out a good one.  I believe it is
called _The care and keeping of you._  They have a
list of all of their titles on their website.


For younger children, IT'S SO AMAZING, and for older
children, IT'S PERFECTLY NORMAL both by Robie
Harris and illustrated by Michael Emberley. This are
beautiful, clear, non-judgmental books about human
growth and development.

There are some great titles by Babette Cole like Hair
in Funny Places.

You should look at It's So Amazing, A Book About Eggs,
Sperm, Birth, Babies, and Families by Robie H Harris.
It can be shared by parents with their children or can
be read by older kids. 


In case you haven't gotten this one yet.  The Care and
Keeping of You.  It is in the American Girl series.  I
have been reading it with my 8-9 year old daughter.  I
like it for several reasons.  1. It talks about
puberty in a very non-threatening way. (Cartoon
characters are used instead of live shots.)  2.  It
goes over hair, nails, skin, feelings, emotions,
nutrition, exercise and good health.  3. It does not
discuss male puberty or what happens when the two
meet.  It does show (in cartoon form) the developing
female breast and v*ag*na (sorry I don't know what
your filter may object to)  so the boys may find it
VERY interesting.  They should have it in your local
bookstore so you can preview it and decide if it is
appropriate for your school. Hope this helps!
