Our district has used SuccessMaker for Pearson Digital Learning as a supplement to
reading and math instruction for grades K-5 for about 8 years. Students go to a lab
for 20 min. every day where they are supervised by a para-professional, although
the teacher stays in the room. ( This counts as part of teacher planning time). The
problem: the 3-5 building has undergone a building renovation which included all
new computers. The new computers won't run the old software. The upgrade to the new
version is somewhat more costly than what the district would like to spend.
Therefore we've decided that this would be a good time to review what we're doing
and I'm looking for feedback. Do any of your districts use SuccessMaker, in what
ways do you use it? Has anyone replaced SuccessMaker with other software? Would you
recommend other supplemental reading/math software? We had already discussed
limiting SuccessMaker to 4 days a week and beginning keyboarding practice at this
level, are there other suitable alternatives that you think may fit into 5 20
minute settings or 2 50 minute settings? I have looked in the archives already and
the information there was limited. Any suggestions or information you could give
would be very appreciated.
