I was lucky enough to have Mr. McCourt for 6 semesters of creative writing at
Stuyvesant High School. I remember we always had to submit writings to publications
as part of our grade-- and show him either a rejection letter or a check--he didn't
care which.
He did all my college recommendations, which I still have. Not only is his book
fantastic, but he is as well. We were very sad when he left to "go write a book".
Some of the stories in the book were "tried out" on us. He always regaled us with
stories from his past. I think I am one of the few who still call him Mr. McCourt
and one of the lucky few who hailed from his classroom.

Thanks for giving Mr. McCourt a good review! He taught at my high school
and, though I didn't have him, (I had Dr. Sheldon & Ms. Kocela, both
mentioned in this book), all my friends who did loved his class.
I just finished _Teacher Man_ and was reminded of how creative we can be,
and should be, despite the strictures of standardized testing!
Happy reading, All, and Happy New Year!
