Late last year, in preparation for a visit from our accrediting agency,
I prepared a handbook for the library (really for what I do in the
library on a day-to-day basis). I looked at it from the perspective of
"What if I die tomorrow." It is extremely detailed, but covers
everything that happens in this library daily.
In addition, we are a boarding school and, as such, have faculty who
cover the circulation desk at night. They do not have access to the
circulation system. Instead, I leave a form on the desk each night that
is used when students check out materials. There are three
columns--student name and number, barcode number, and title of book (as
a countercheck). This works quite well.
Obviously, from the discussion in this thread, this may not help all
the time but it does most of the time. I would be happy to supply any
"detailed" information; please contact me off list.
