I am the library coordinator for a large, suburban school district. Our
district is composed of four elementary librarians, two middle school
librarians, and two high school librarians. We have volunteered to make a
presentation to our board of education in a few weeks. It has been several
years since we have presented to our board and we agreed that it would be a
worthwhile effort. Part of our motivation is that if we ask for additional
funding or anything else in the future, it will make our case stronger since
the "powers that be" are more aware of what we are doing in the district.
The presentation will be a "who we are and what we do" session that will
last about 15 minutes followed by questions and answers. I have created two
power point presentations that we will show - one is informational and the
other is a photo slide show of all of our libraries and our students.
Since I am fairly new to the district, this will be my first time presenting
to the board. I was curious to know who else out there has recently
presented to their board of ed? What was the focus of your presentation?
What technology did you use to present to them and what was the agenda? What
types of questions did board members ask? How would you evaluate it and what
would you do differently? Any comments would be appreciated.
