I will be telling The Rough Face Girl to 6th graders next week as part of a
unit on Cinderella stories across cultures. Somewhere, sometime I seem to
remember seeing a Native American storyteller begin a program with an
invocation of some sort. The same words would be recited at the beginning of
every storytelling session to "set" the audience, much as we librarians will
recite a special poem or light a candle to suggest "now it is time to listen
to a story."
If you know of any special Native American invocation you could share,
please send it to me off the list. I will gladly post a hit! TIA
