Well, it's down to a few titles. We are now discussing what the students and
teachers have selected and we have narrowed the titles down to these few (get
ready because I think our choices may NOT be the norm):
Exodus by Leon Uris
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladewell
The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
A Mango Shaped Space by Wendy Mass
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Thanks to all of you for the many suggestions. I'll let you know the final (final)
list of books and the one we eventually use when we are finished discussing.
However, these are our top picks---those not chosen as the universal book will be
used by some of the teachers with groups, so these books will be used during the
summer by at least one teacher---we expect to have 35 titles being read by grades
10-12 this summer, in addition to our universal book.
