[LM_NET] HS Murphy's Herd--time period?

I have a student and teacher wanting to know the historical time period 
for Gary Paulsen's Murphy's Herd.  I've tried Amazon and Novelist and 
know Wyoming, $64 a month cowboy but can't seem to find the time period! 
  Hoping someone can help with the historic time for the story.  Thanks 
so much for any assistance!
