In my elementary school days, I saved a nice collection of damaged books to show
kindergarten students before their first borrowing. A few well chewed books which
show tooth marks demonstrated why we keep them out of the way of dogs. One book was
chewed by a guinea pig when the book was left on his cage. Others show the dirt
from the school bus floor demonstrating why the book stays in its bag or backpack
until it gets home. Books with crayon marks show why library books stay out of the
hands of little brothers and sisters, cousins, neighbors etc.
