Hi Everyone,
Monday brings our 18th day of school for our students as we are on an
extended (or year round) schedule. I am having a panic attack. And no, this is
not my first year. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. First, I
have lost my aid who was almost full time. She is there for about 45
minutes-11/2 hours on a good day. We are on a fixed schedule, with 5 special
areas,
but the computer/career lab is a two week block, which means some weeks I have
the same classes twice a week and then sometimes not, there is a pattern,
but it rather irregular. To add to the mix, we have 7 kindergarten classes
(soon to be 8) 6 first grades, 6 second grades, 6 third grades, 5 4th and 5th
grades. Because we have only 5 places for them to go, we have to double up
some kids for all grade levels except 4 and 5. It is a nightmare for the
teachers who have split classes and for me and my special area team members. I
think I am asking, for those of you who don't have aides, how do you manage
check in and check out, how do you assist your students when you are the only
one in the media center to do the checking in and out? Do you or would you use
those extra classes as enrichment, or would you do an entirely different
lesson plan? As it is, I have 6 preps a day, adding the double classes it makes
it 9 or 10 preps depending on the week. This of course allows no time for
library administration, but that is whole different issue. Oh, and did I
mention that I run the news program every morning before school so I have had to
close the media center, because I have no help. I do have two volunteers
coming on two days to alleviate that problem, and I could use 5th grade students
but they can't be unsupervised. It is a dilemma. I didn't mean to get so
windy, but I am feeling cornered and desperate. Any suggestions will be
gladly taken.
Thanks for listening!
