Friends at LM Net,
A very interesting letter was written this Sunday, April 02, 2006 in The New
York Times on page 11 of the Opinion Section. The letter is from Governor
Mike Huckabee. Huckabee's letter is in response to the March 26th article in
the New York Times "Schools Cut Back Subjects to Push Reading and Math".
Huckabee maintains that "Numerous studies affirm that a student school in
music improves his or her SAT and ACT scores in math, foreign languages or
creative writing. Creative students are better problem solvers; that is a
trait the business world begs for in its work force".
Does anyone from Arkansas (or anywhere else) know what Huckabee's stand is
on school libraries? Might he be someone worth investigating as a potential
ally as schools plan schools without libraries and librarians?
