I Googled the word "efforting" and found several entries. Evidently it has
been used in the media some lately, most noticeably in reference to
"efforting" to accomplish things in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

I've got to say, though, that it reminds me a lot of the Get Fuzzy cartoons
where Bucky says he is going to "food" a rubber band, and then reiterates
that you can "verb" any word you want. Later he tries to "food" a monkey.

So, imho, unless your principal wants to be viewed as an insane Siamese cat
with a taste for monkeys, he should stay with the tried and true words,
"trying" or "attempting" or "making an effort".

Subject: [LM_NET] Gen: Is this word ever a verb?

HI Folks. Please help settle and argument between me and my principal. I

overheard him dictating a letter this morning. He used the word "efforting."

I gently interjected that there is no such word. He disagreed. He said it
is a new word

used in the business world. I looked at him skeptically.

He barked at me to find out. I showed him the dictionary entry. He still
disagrees.

Please help. Thanks.
