The SUNLINK Weed of the Month topic for September is "World War II."
The year 2005 marks the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II and
also the first anniversary of the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. A
flurry of commemorative events, educational activities, and publishing
is currently in place to mark this occasion. There are wonderful new and
interesting titles available now to supplement or replace aging and
possibly biased titles in school library collections.
For information on criteria, a rationale, suggested titles to consider
for weeding, and titles to consider for purchase, go to this section of
the SUNLINK web site:

A brief explanation of Weed of the Month for new LM_NET members: The
SUNLINK Weed of the Month began in September 1997, as an effort to help
provide Florida's School Library Media Specialists with guidelines and
suggestions for weeding their collections a little at a time as well as
adding quality materials. The project idea and specific suggestions came
from media specialists around the world via LM_NET. A section of a
school library media collection is identified each month during the
school year as a weeding target.
Please note: We have discovered that even Weeds of the Month need
weeding! We are in the process of updating criteria for weeding and
rearranging the topics generally by Dewey as we go. The updated WOMs
are linked from the WOM Archive at
http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/archive/archive.html.
