I had a 6th grade math teacher bring this to me. She is going to be teaching line
graphs to her students showing the change of something over time.
She came to me to get some fun, quirky facts that her students will find
entertaining. For example, she would have them do a line graph showing how many
hamburgers were eaten in 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000. I am just making up
this example but she wants things along those lines.
Based on using dates, my first thought is the US Census Bureau but I am sure that
even the long form doesn't ask how many burgers each person ate in a year.
She has suggested her students think of some things. Some are asking at home how
tall they were at 5 year intervals.
Any ideas of books or web sites I can find that would show quirky information like
this. It doesn't have to be time related necessarily but has to lend itself easily
to a line graph.
Thank you so much!
