Hi,
As many of you, in Florida we have an annual standardized test,
FCAT. The stakes are high! As a result, the kids work through a
computerized (drill and practice) program to help them "prepare."
Because all ninth and tenth graders must use this program with their
math and/or English classes, all the computer labs on campus are
"booked" from January to mid-March. That includes the 35 computers in
the library media center. (I bet you can see where I'm going with this!)
For two and a half months, very, very few teachers bring their
classes to use the resources that the media center has to offer. It
seems that teachers--and students--think research REQUIRES computers.
Telling them about the many, many resources available seems to fall on
deaf ears.
I would like to post a list to our school bulletin board
identifying some of the "things" the media center can offer classes (and
teachers) during that period when student computers are unavailable.
What lessons and/or activities do YOU offer/provide for classes (during
the months of January-March)?
Thanks, so much for your ideas.
