Personal sidenote on this topice.
I was a child that was bounced between schools quite frequently. Being a fairly shy
person (can you ever believe that I was??) and one that knew I would not be around
long to make long-term friends. (11 different elementaries--several were repeated
in my moves, 3 jr highs, 1 high school--the HS was a shock on how to deal with
people.)
BUT, I soon learn that Beverly Cleary was on the same section of the library in
each library. AND, Biographies were ALWAYS listed by the person being
auto/biographied. AND that LIBRARIANS always said 'HI, COME ON IN. HOW CAN I HELP
YOU? OF COURSE
YOU CAN COME HERE FOR RECESS."
Because of the uniformed way that the libraries were organized, I always felt at
home in the libraries. The layout might be different, but once you knew where the
sections were, I could easily navigate between them.
I know that much of this discussion is whether we should, what is best practice for
getting books into students, and at times at bit of humor of "Yeah, right". And I
do enjoy most of the comments and the discussions so that have led me to think
about why I do keep the organization traditional, with displays when I know that
there is a genre unit.
