Okay, I do wear my hair up or pulled back. When you hair is below your shoulders
it makes it a practical hair style.

Okay, I do wear bifocals. I found that my eyes dry out too fast in a/c rooms and
are VERY uncomfortable.

Okay, I do wear practical shoes. I prefer sports walking shoes or sandals. It
depends on the day and the duties I think the job is going to involve. I'm sorry,
but there are times that heels just would NOT be practical to get the job done.

Okay, I do wear sensible clothing. I am moving, bending, reaching, and working at
times with dusty litsets, and prefer my "good" clothes to stay nice. I wear LOTS of
long blouses and pants or LONG dresses--depending on if I am giving a planned
lesson or presentation.

I also wear LOTS of wild pins and necklaces (short) to add to my outfit. I also
look for very different hair adornments--since if I am sitting, the students tower
over me and that is what they see the most.

I also am known for the classical music playing in the background. Okay, it is
different countries, and it also includes classical guitar, jazz, and bluegrass.
And occasionally just nature sounds.

I am also known to say "SHHHHHHHHHHH" because I can do that quickly and it gets the
message across quickly.

BUT, I am NOT your "typical" librarian of the 1950s. I enjoy Neopets.com and am a
"hit" at my middle school because I can ask if they found the newest........ on the
site. Or I can also talk about the Iditarod, Indy car racing, AND just to be
different---I am a civil war reenactor and own a closet full of clothing, tents,
and cookware just for that.

As for a role-model.... ummmm I can talk about Eldest and compare to Eragon, and
know WHEN the next Pendragon book will be out, and know the difference between the
movie version and the book version of the newest releases, and I have created a
library webpage of sites to help with their homework assignments. BUT can confess
that I have NO IDEA how a scanner works.

UMM, traditionally female occupation. No problem. But I strive to be one of the
best I can be. I am active in promoting reading programs at my school/district/ and
hopefully state wide (BOB). I am active in keeping current on the newest reading,
social studies, science adoptions. I keep current on the effects of the political
decisions in the area of education and life and am active in writing to
congressmen/women to support bills that will help in the areas they can vote. I am
active in
making sure that the young twenty somethings that just got married at our church
know how to do the basics in cooking and planning meals. I am the backup support
for my niece in making sure that she has a secure home. I am the caregiver to my
mother when she has needed it.

Role model---let's see..... I hope that others will see that I am a caring person
and that I care about my profession and the future generations. Yes, I hope others
will look and see that I do believe that being a LIBRARIAN is an honorable
profession because of all the different lives you get to touch by the decisions I
will be making in the selection of materials (which some librarian down the road is
going to say "WHAT in the world was SHE thinking?????"

Yep, I am a librarian. YEP, I have the perfect profession for me---I am a
know-it-all in a profession that people expect us to be know-it-all (or at least
how to find it).
