[LM_NET] TAR: The Contender: need materials to supplement/accompany

Hello,
We're looking for video (aside from the movie), short
story, poetry, etc. tie-ins to The Contender by
Lipsyte.
Any ideas for videos of what life was like in the
1960's-70's for a young African American teen?
Poetry/stories with a sports, quitting, fitting in,
pursuing one's dreams theme?

We need this for a July summer school session for hs
students.
