I'm developing some workshops for librarians that require a follow-up homework
assignment that is due from each librarian (after completion of the workshop) in
order for them to receive professional development points. I have ten workshops on
various topics but wanted some unique and interesting activities that would put
into practice some of the lessons taught in the workshops.
I'm hoping that maybe some of you would be able to help with some unique ideas for
"homework assignments" for librarians on these topics:
1. Book Repair-- the librarian will be taught how to repair books (from basic
covering to the major stuff)
2. Show Me the Money -- librarians will be given resources and ideas to write for
grants (for libraries or for activities that they can collaborate with teachers
with for grants)
3. The Need to Weed --- librarians will be taught how to weed their collections
with confidence
4. Meeting the Needs of ESL Students-- librarians will be shown a variety of
resources for selecting, ordering, and utilizing resources for / with their ESL
students.
5. Facing Challenges -- librarians will learn what to do when they are faced with
book challenges or questions about their selections / selection policy.
6. Current Trends in YA Literature -- librarians will learn some of the latest
trends in YA literature and determine how to select materials that YA's enjoy.
7. How to Select Online Databases -- librarians will learn how online databases
compare to one another and ways to link student achievement through the use of
online databases, as well as how to evaluate which databases can help them reach
those goals.
8. More Than Books -- librarians will learn how to select "more than just books"
for their collections -- this includes videos, kits, games, realia, magazines,
music, and more; they will also learn how to promote and utilize these resources
with both students and teachers.
The first two presentations have been completed and have assignments, but the "well
has run dry" at this point (on the last 8 programs)....any creative ideas for
homework assignments that can make these activities more personable for each
librarian?
You may contact me off-list. Thanks!!
