I hope we don't equate rewards, awards and praise as all the same thing. I don't
think they are necessarily the same. Each has it's place.
Everyone likes working for some kind of recognition, but everyone also enjoys a
personal feeling of success from time to time. We all enjoy both intrisic and
extrinsie recongnition.Praise and other souces of recognition are necessary.
One of my problems with many reading incentive programs is that they become award
programs -- someone beat someone else either in points, or stickers or prizes. If a
reading program starts out with money, toys I wonder where you go from there? I saw
a school giving away DVD players in an AR program. Where do you go from there.
