[LM_NET] MS book suggestions needed

My middle school social studies teacher came to me with the following request. She 
is looking for books to read aloud to her classes to coincide with units involving 
the following countries. This past year she used Elizabeth Laird?s A Little Piece 
of Ground during her study of the Israeli and Palestinian issue. She was amazed at 
how a piece of fiction could hook the student?s interest and is looking to repeat 
the experience. She?s looking for titles about or set in the following countries 
featuring contemporary middle school or teenaged characters that will include 
information about the culture, history or current events of these countries. Any 
ideas?
China 7/8
India 7/8
Middle Eastern countries 7/8
Brazil or other Latin American countries 5/6
