I nixed all pets and most plants from my library years ago. I'm very
sensitive to people with allergies and adding anything that might be a
hurdle to library use. I live in fear that one of my students will get
peanut butter on the pages of a book and it then be checked out by one
of students who is DEATHLY allergic to peanuts.
I have hung very large kites from the ceiling. I have a dragon and a
butterfly. I've seen a sailing ship that I would like to add for the
non-fiction section. The kids love them.
A few years ago, I was in Wal-Mart and they had animal shaped pillows
for sale very cheap. I picked up about 15, each different, and the kids
love to lay on these to read. Twice a year I have volunteers take them
home to wash in the dishwasher..It's their hydrospa treatment.
