One of our Title I paraprofessionals (in her mid-40s) was diagnosed over
Christmas vacation with lung, breast, and brain cancer. She is receiving
radiation treatments right now and will soon start chemo. Her plan is to
continue working with students as long as she can. We know it won't be
long before it will be visually apparent that she is ill and our guidance
counselor is looking for resources to share with students when this
happens. I searched the archives but most of the books on cancer that
were listed there were either for high school students or were about a
parent with cancer. We are looking for books for grades K-6 students
(picture books and chapter books) that our counselor can use in this
situation. We do have Good Luck, Mrs.K.! which she plans to use but we
are looking for more resources on cancer. Also, if death is part of the
book, that is fine but we are not looking for titles that just deal with
death. Thanks!
