Thanks a million to all who responded to my morning query!

Here's the Pet Rock List:
Baylor.  Everybody Needs a Rock.
Lionni.  Alexander and the wind-up mouse.
Steig.  Sylvester and the magic pebble.

Hurst.  Rocks in his head.
Christian.  If you find a rock.

    I also received terrific lesson plan ideas - Gail Galey uses a lodestone for 
magic tricks - easy stuff even a rock can do - sit, stay, etc.  Other wonderful 
people suggested collecting rocks to be transformed into Pet Rocks - writing poems 
about them, etc.  Fun stuff.  You are a fab group!
