April Foolishness by Teresa Bateman
I thought this book was so cute (the illustrations are terrific) and I read it to
K-2 classes last week. However, none of them seemed to understand the humor of the
book (it went over their heads). Even the second graders didn't laugh at the ending.
Plot: the grandkids keep trying to fool Grandpa. He ignores them thinking it is
April Fool's Day jokes. Then Grandma tells him he is wrong, it is not April Fool's
day. He becomes frantic thinking all the things the kids said were real (sheep
loose, Cow stepped on goose, etc.). Then when he flies out the door, Grandma calls
out "April Fools"
I thought it was funny, the kids did not. Go figure!
