I have been given about $1500 of unexpected extra money to spend in my
library. My principal would like it spent on something that would long-term
benefit the students. Naturally I have a list of resources as long as my
arm that I could propose to him, but I'm wondering if there is something
innovative and exciting that I could purchase? Something I wouldn't
normally be able to afford with budget money. He's pretty open to anything
(doesn't have to be print/electronic resources) at this point as long as it
benefits the students and will be around for a long time to come.
Any suggestions/recommendations? Here is a bit of background on my library.
I am the sole person in charge of all aspects of the running and maintaining
the library. Mine is a non-teaching position. We serve about 950 students
from grades 9 to 12. I have 29 computers in the library right now and a
collection of about 13,500 fiction/non-fiction books. The space is fairly
large, although the placement of the computers around the perimeter of one
area has led to a rather inefficient use of that space. Don't think there's
anything that can be done about that without major renovations.
I'd love to take him some really interesting ideas when I meet with him
early next week. I know that the collective wisdom of this group will have
some super suggestions. Thanks in advance.
