TARGET: How to keep shelves straight (not in order)

How do you keep your bookshelves straight? Not in order, but physically
straight across the shelf. Do you have some gizmo that you use? Or do you
bother with it?

I like my books lined up just a little back from the front edge of the
shelf. I call it "fronting the shelf" since it is similar to what is done
by stock clerks in grocery stores.
