Need quote source please

Hi, all,

A friend asked me for the source of a quote -sort of - and she believes it is from 
a poem.  Goes like this:

"I could have skipped the pain
But then I would have had to skip the dance."

She thinks it is the last two lines or an approximation thereof.

Any ideas?  Thanks so much
