An art class in our middle school is doing a project where they research
an artist and as a final product they create an information card about
the artist with a picture on one side and the information on the other.
For example, a student was looking at an article in World Book Online on
the Fauves with a picture "The Dance I" by Henri Matisse. The first
question was can the student use the picture? And then, how to
cite--World Book cites it:
The Dance I by Henri Matisse, 1909. Oil on canvas. 8 feet 6 1/2 inches
by 12 feet 9 1/2 inches (2.60 by 3.90 meters)
The Museum of Modern Art, New York City, Gift of Nelson A. Rockefeller
in honor of Alfred H. Barr, Jr.; (c) 2001 Succession H. Matisse,
Paris/Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York. Digital image (c) The
Museum of Modern Art; Licensed by SCALA/Art Resource.
I looked in my handy copy of Copyright for Schools and really could not
find a match for this. I am stumped. Any ideas? I will be glad to post a
hit if there is enough interest.
Thanks.
