I am about to begin (with much excitement) our state book award program.
I have been reading the books furiously and reading the reviews but have run
out of time. We are a rural, conservative 6-8 school. I am not sure about
the maturity levels of some of the remaining titles that are on the 7-12th
grade list. Please respond to me with your opinion if you have read any of
the following titles:
Define Normal
What My Mother Doesn't Know
Sonny's War
The Book of Fred
The Stones of Mourning Creek
Island Boyz: Short Stories
Black Mirror
One of my concerns is that whatever I purchase will go into the regular
collection and will be available for 6th graders after the book award
program ends in the spring. However, I guess I could pass any that are too
mature on to the high school after they have voted.
Thanks for your help. I love this job, but I never get enough reading
time!
