book title

I have a fifth grader looking for a book.  He remembers the following
info. about the book:

A young girl is captured by Native Americans.  Her brother has to run
across a specific area and if he is not on time, his sister will be pushed
overf a cliff to her death.  He thinks the title includes the word
"crooked".

Can anyone help me with the title of this book?
