After reading the entire eight pages of the article in the November 2004
issue, I can summarize it all in two words: Buyer beware. If more of us
would pay attention to the quality of what we purchase and less to the
price, we would greatly reduce the hazardous items (often counterfeit)
on the market. For example, I'm shopping for dvd/vcr combo decks. I've
narrowed my search down to three models, and now I'm looking for the
best deal on one of them. Prices vary by about 10% from highest to
lowest on any particular unit. If someone has one that is way below that
I won't buy from them because the unit is most likely either stolen or
counterfeit. I try to stick with reputable dealers rather than buying
from who knows who on the Internet.
Many of us control large budgets for equipment, software, videos, etc.
If we patronize only reputable dealers who sell only legitimate products
we can help drive the crooks away.
