Book character costumes

Everyone at my school is dressing up at the end of the month as a book
character.  I don't sew so I don't know what to do to make a costume.  I am
looking for a costume that I can purchase or one that I could make with
clothing from the thrift store.  I looked in the archives but most of the
ideas that I got are either costumes that librarians make or are made with
clothes and accessories that I don't have.  I would appreciate any help.
