Good Afternoon:
I have a coworker who is struggling with a few of her 11th grade math
students. We have a local community college that has alternative programs
that offer students the opportunity to work toward a high school diploma or
GED in a community college setting. She is hesitant to bring this
information to her principal because she doesn't have any experience with
these types of programs.
I realize this is off-topic, but I really hope that some of you who deal
with secondary students may have answers to the following questions (since
you have such a wide range of fabulous experience and knowledge!):
What challenges does a 16-20 year old at-risk youth face in pursuing a high
school diploma in a community college environment?
In your opinion, what secondary standards and national educational standards
must these alternative programs address in order to be successful?
We are trying to come up with a pro's /con's assessment to present to her
principal, so any information provided would be greatly appreciated!
Much thanks!
