This is what I received from people as recommendations for books to offer to
students to purchase when Eric Kimmel visits our school. I had a few emails
bounce back, so if you did not receive a thank you, I want you to know I
appreciated your ideas.

Responses from listserv:
I am also having Eric Kimmel visit my school. I offered 12 hardcover and 12
paperback selections. I chose books that came from a variety of cultures to
give everyone a choice. We are a multi-cultural school. I dealt with Holiday
House, his main publisher. I received the books today. It was a very smooth
process. There was a 35% discount, but I charged $16.00 for HC and $6.00 for
PB, to make it easier, so the parents did get a small discount. Whatever
small profit I make will go towards the author luncheon I have with the kids
and the the cost of his honorarium. It took about an hour today to fiil the
orders and tomorrow I will deliver the books to the children in their
classrooms. About 200 children ordered books.
All of his books are wonderful. I've read several. I especially like the
Anansi books for the younger students, as well as Easy Work. None of his
books are meant for grades 1-2 to read to themselves (unless they're
gifted). They are meant as read-alouds. some were particularly recommended
for grades 4-6, but I don't have the list here. Did you receive the info
packet from Mrs. Kimmel? The list of his titles had those noted for older
students.
----
You should have at least one of the Anansi books that he retells. Those
are great!
----
Anansi and the Moss covered rock is always a hit!
----
We had Eric last fall and my k-3 are stilling asking for the Anansi books,
especially Anansi and the Magic Stone.
----
I would recommend his Anansi books, especially Anansi and the Magic Stick. I
think that's the one where there is a flood, and the illustrator, Janet
Stevens, draws many things floating down the stream, including a cartoon
version of herself and of Kimmel.
----
My favorite by Eric Kimmel is "The Three Princes: a mideastern fairy tale".
I know I haven't read all his books, but this one is a hit. And very
appropriate for our multicultural events of the day.
----
I would DEFINITELY put The Runaway Tortilla on your list for all grade
levels but especially primary. I saw/heard Eric speak a few years ago and
that was the highlight of his talk. Good luck and enjoy!
----
For grade 1 & 2 I would recommend Anansi and the Moss-covered Rock.
----
I think that he illustrated The Old Woman and Her Pig. The students really
like picking out the word NO in each illustration. I think that he also did
a Gingerbread Man. I took my frog to the library is great.
----
His Anansi stories are great.
----
You won't regret offering Anansi and the Moss-Covered Rock, for the lower
grades, at least. When I was in an elementary library, this one had the 1st
and 2nd graders practically rolling in the aisles when I read it aloud. His
other Anansi titles are great also.
----
Our 2nd grade reading includes Anansi and the Talking Melon; my favorite is
Anansi and the Moss-Covered Rock.
