There has been some interesting discussion on this listserv about successful
and unsuccessful attempts by school librarians to collaborate with teachers!
We want to know more about the attempts that were successful!

Knowledge Quest, journal of the American Association of School Librarians
(AASL) is planning an issue on Early Literacy (language, reading, writing).
We are looking for examples of teacher-librarian cooperation in pursuing
early literacy goals (pre-K to grade 1). Our purpose is to show other
teachers and librarians how team efforts foster goal achievement. This
issue was originally scheduled for 2003, but is now slotted for fall of
2004! I hope the extra time gives more of you an opportunity to share.

If you are part of a teacher-librarian team that pursues early literacy
goals, and are willing to share your story with others, please e-mail me
privately: jan.bakker@curf.edu

Here are some things we might like to cover when we share stories about
early literacy programs:

1. How were the early literacy goals developed?
2. What is the role of the teacher? What is the role of the school
librarian/media specialist? How were these roles decided?
3. What challenges have you faced?
4. How have you documented success?
5. What guidance can you give to other teacher-librarian teams?

Looking forward to hearing from you!
