Recently my K-5 library was totally renovated, to the tune of $100,000. We
re-carpeted the whole room except for the library office, which had linoleum tiles.
Pros for carpet: absorbs some of the room's sounds and is comfortable. Also
provides a warm surface if kids are working on the floor. Cons: if you have a
janitor who doesn't bother to vacuum.... Well, you get that idea !
Currently I work at a school that has wall-to-wall carpet in the library. It is
ANCIENT but is much quieter than the solid hard-work floor that is underneath it.
Good luck with your decision. My personal preference, go with the carpet and talk
your janitor into running the vacuum at least once a week !
