ELEM: Assessment books for K-3

Hello.  I was wondering how other schools handle their assessment books. =
 My principal has had me inventory all the books.  Many have disappeared =
because they weren't bar-coded.=20

My principal wants to order more books, then barcode and have the =
teachers check them out.  The Kindergarten teachers want to keep them in =
their possession. =20

How do other schools handle this problem?  Are the books grouped =
together, or do teachers come to the media center and pick and choose =
which books they are going to use?   =20
