Just my two cents on the issue. With reasonable pricing, I say, try to =
convince the principal that it needn't be a question of either/or, but =
BOTH! I hear both "sides," if you will, and think getting BOTH is the =
right answer, whenever possible.
When I would like to learn a lot about a subject, I'd hate to have to =
read what would be a three or four page article in the print version of =
an encyclopedia online -- or print it out, to make it easier to read. =
Ink and paper aren't free, and printers are not instantaneous. On the =
other hand, if all I want is a quick one fact answer, an online search =
MIGHT be easier.
Taking notes from a print version is also good practice at finding the =
salient points from what we are reading (aren't we all really reading =
teachers, whether we mean to be or not?), and may act to reduce the =
temptation to plagiarize.
