First, check your District policies on challenges. Follow these policies to
the letter. Do NOT pull these books from the shelf. Sit down with your
principal after you have researched the reviews and appropriateness of these
books. If they are appropriate, then try to informally settle this issue
with the principal.
If the principal still wants to remove these books, then gently remind her
the District has a Challenge Policy that needs to be followed and they have
every right to formally challenge this book and you will gladly help her
fill out the form. Keep the book on the shelf until the challenge has gone
through its process. If this book is formally challenged, then contact the
ALA for their guidance on challenges.
