I like putting them near the call number but I don't acutally have any
policy - the policy is more 'where does it fit'? I don't like covering info
on spine such as author or title - but sometimes I need to. I guess it
supports my policy to put the barcode inside the book rather than on back
cover - I refuse to cover any text on covers. So I guess, my answer is - I
put it anywhere it feels right at the time...not always artistic but it does
the job. I don't make a big deal about any rules about placements, etc.

Subject: TAR: Genre Labels - Another Question

> Hi,
>
> I read the archives but did not find the answer to my question. I have
decided to label my fiction collection with genre labels. From the comments
in the archives, it seems this may help the students. However, I did not
find an answer to my questions.
>
> Where do you put the labels? We place the AR label above the call number
and if the book already has this label, I don't think I will put on another
label. I am totally undecided if the genre label should go above the call
number or along the top of the spine. I looked at my collection and about
50% of the titles are closer to the top of the spine and the other 50% are
closer to the call number so in 1/2 of the books, the title would be
partially covered with this label.
>
> The ones in Demco, Highsmith and Gaylord are all 1" x 3/4". Do you know a
source for smaller genre labels?
>
> Thanks so much for you help with this. I will post a "hit" with the
replies without names.
