I think it would be horrible to alienate students from studying in a
Barnes and Noble. If they are buying ANYTHING, including coffee, they
have the right to be there. There is a coffee bar for a reason- it is a
money maker- and Barnes and Noble certainly did their research as to the
environments people like to spend time in. Their work has certainly
paid off. I think it is unfortunate that you would want to make such a
large issue out of the fact that students are comfortable being in a
book store. Perhaps we should be happy that there is so much learning
and exchanging of ideas happening in casual settings.

I was really ticked off last night. My husband and I went to our =
neighborhood Barnes and Noble bookstore. I collected a small stack of
=
books and magazines that I wanted to sort through and I couldn't find a
=
place to sit.
Apparently, since our B & N is close to a university, it is the "new"
=
place for university students to study. The students occupied every =
easy chair and every table. The only purchases they had made was from
=
Starbucks (mmmmm....white chocolate mocha....sorry I digress...heheh).

A complaint made to the store manager was not satisfying. He basically
=
said that the decision to ban/bar the students had to be made on the =
corporate level and that the store couldn't do anything about it.
Needless to say, I will pursue this to the corporate level. I think it
=
is poor business practice to allow the students to take over the store
=
and to discourage paying customers from enjoying the store.
Have any of you had a similar problem with your bookstores?
