We all 'packrat' to some extent for varying reasons; that favorite =
series,
books everyone 'should' read, maybe a kid will really ask for 'something
else by George Elliot', etc.=20
But I wonder if a certain amount of the 'don't throw away that video'
syndrome might not come from material being a tool in a teacher's too =
small
of a toolbox. Perhaps, instead of just tossing the material (with =
legitimate
reasons), we should help the staff get some new tools; arrange for =
whatever
central media library is available to show new materials (or even how to
access catalog, etc), get media on preview, locate web resources, =
develop
pathfinders for what we have available, show interlibrary capabilities,
advertise the newer stuff already in the library, ask for assistance in
choosing new materials, etc.

Re Hit on Filmstrips:
.....It seems like a problem many new librarians encounter. Suggestions
ranged from removing the filmstrips during the cover of night to =
checking
the circulation statistics and using that criteria to remove them. =
Often
people mentioned that it was just a few teachers and when they retired, =
the
need was gone. .....I will need to keep them for a year and then I will =
have
a record of what is used. ....
