I'm assuming your 7th graders are average readers... many of our 7th graders=
=20
can barely read... I've successfully booktalked many titles.
Avi. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle II
Bauer, Cat. Harley Like a Person
Bauer, Joan. Rules of the Road
Bloor, Edward. Tangerine
Carrol, Jenny.  The Mediator Series.
Cooney, Caroline B. The Face on the Milk Carton
Colfer.  Eion.  Artemis Fowl.
Fleischman, Paul.  Whirligig. =20
Fleischman, Sid.  The 13th Floor
Fletcher, Susan.  Shadow Spinner
Flake  The Skin I'm In
Haddix, Margaret Patterson.  Any title
Hinton, S.E.  The Outsiders
Klass, David.  Danger Zone.

Check out www.nancykeane.com for booktalks. Also, if you have acces to=20
Novelist, they have booktalks there too.

Any Books by the following authors:
Margaret Patterson Haddix
Lois Duncan
Walter Dean Myers
I find that 7th graders like booktalks:
(1) historical fiction - by century or major world event
(2) by author - people you should read BEFORE you leave our school -=20
recommend 2 from each other to get a sampling of his/her variety
(3) by shape - the final product from a book report is making a 'book' in th=
e=20
shape of the topic (non-fiction - boy do they head for the animal books on=20
this one - but it ties to 7th science unit so it is OK)
(4) biography - I try to pull those people who will be found in the=20
curriculum for that particular grade level during the year (Eng. has a 1940'=
s unit; So.=20
St. has a middle ages unit, Holocaust unit, Latin Ameria unit) -- so I pull=20=
a=20
mix of people to match
