It started with OCLC suing a hotel in NYC called The Library Hotel. They =
were (are) using the DDC as part of their hotel theme.  For that reason =
OCLC sued.  I don't think that libraries have to pay any fee to use DDC, =
but OCLC I think said that libraries had to purchase a license (more of =
less) the use of their services for cataloging.  Maybe they got the two =
confused. (This is my conjecture).

At last night's County Board of Education meeting, a board member told =
me
that he heard that all libraries have to pay $500 a year to someone who
"owns" the Dewey Decimal System.  I told him that I thought this was an
urban legend, but now he really wants to know.  The best I could come up
with is that we do buy the DDC books, but we've certainly never paid a =
fee.
Any leads on this "rumor" so I can molify this board member?  Thanks.
