Someone responded privately to my comment and remarked that the ALA =
division serves ages birth to 14, but in talking about Newbery's, we =
were commenting on the range for them, and wondering if the range is too =
broad. WHAT is the age range for Newbery's.
Also, the criteria listed is: =20
marked by eminence and distinction:=20
noted for significant achievement=20
marked by excellence in quality=20
marked by conspicuous excellence or eminence =
individually distinct=20
I would like more specific criteria for each book. Why was it chosen? =
Maybe that is cited somewhere but I don't know where. Many of the books, =
which I faithfully purchase en masse each year, never get checked out by =
my students: 26 Fairmount Ave, Lily's crossing, Getting nearer to baby, =
Carver a life in poems, Girl Named Disaster.
I have no doubt that it is an overwhelming job, but we so look forward =
to the results and then are sometimes left wondering "why this book"?
