I had a 6th grader ask me what she could read that was as good as The
Golden Compass (and the rest of the trilogy) by Philip Pullman. She has
read Tolkein. Also Harry Potter, although I personally don't consider
those to be "as good as" the Pullman books. I pointed her in the
direction of Anne McCaffrey, but does anybody have any other
suggestions?
