Let me share my predicament with you so you'll understand why I'm asking this.
I work at a primary (K-2) school with an elementary (3-6) school across the
street from us.
A week in to school we moved a second grade class across the street, which has
never
been done before. Now that this class is across the street the go to library,
art, music, PE
at that school - they don't come back across the street for anything.
Both schools use AR and STAR. The collection at the elementary library is not
set up to
sustain an entire second grade class for a year. (The librarian there even
told me that
half way through the year she erases their tests and they can re-test on
previously read
books since she doesn't have enough books for the other grades). That second
grade
class will be using their AR system, we don't share AR.
The elementary library is trying to get additional funding to purchase some
second grade
level books and AR tests. I need to know on average how many books a second
grade
child tests on.
This is only my second year. I had children in second grade classes who read
and tested
on over 100 AR books. Plus, we can't forget that all of the children in that
class are not
going to be on the same AR level.
Has anyone ever been in this situation? What did you do?
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?
I don't mind sending AR books to the second grade teacher but the elementary
school
would have to purchase the AR tests. It also makes no sense to have them come
across
the street to AR tests because there just isn't any place for them to do this.
We are really hoping to get additional funding because what we do get now
could easily
be wiped out just to solve this problem.
Thanks!
